3 Organizing Habits You Can Embrace Now

Writer's picture: Michaele ToccoMichaele Tocco

How many times have you said, “I don’t have time to get organized”? It’s true that

staying organized is a habit that takes practice. I’m confident though that if you can make it a habit to watch your favorite weekly drama or binge watch a show in one day, you can definitely embrace these three easy habits to become organized!

1. Make intentional purchases

A “Mega One Time Only Sale of the Year” is happening at your favorite store for the FOURTH time this year! We’re all guilty of being sucked into the trap of thinking we’re going to miss some amazing deal. Stop buying things just because there's a sale or you have a coupon. If you don’t need it, don't buy it even if you have a place for it in your home. Buying something just because it’s pretty and you might use it later is not a good reason to place yet another item into your home. Before purchasing an item ask yourself, is this useful to me now? If the answer is no, leave it in the store. This is the best organizing habit you can embrace now!

2. Donate or toss things you don’t use, need, or love

Donating is one of the easiest of the three organizing habits to embrace now. How full is your basement or garage with unused stuff? How many unopened items are stashed in your closets and on shelves?

We’ve all received a gift that we know from the moment we see it, we’re never going to use it. It was the kind gesture of the giver that has made us keep it for 12 years. Space costs money, something you know if you pay rent or a mortgage. Why not keep items that you use, need, or love in that space? Let go of anything in your home that can be donated or given to someone else who will actually use it, including the gift! Toss out any belongings that are no longer in good condition. Eliminating these items will give you more space in your home for what you need.

3. Accept the limits of your space

This one is pretty self-explanatory and circles back around to the first habit. Don’t buy things that you don’t have space for. The size of your space is not going to change by adding more stuff to it. The sooner you accept that, the better. By embracing these three organizing habits you will create a more functional and less chaotic space.

It is my hope to bring you a little humor, sarcasm, and knowledge to live a more intentional and organized life. Share this blog if you found it useful or comment below.
